Album Release October 2026

In this album, singer-songwriter J. Knight performs all vocals and instrumentals as he looks back at songs he wrote decades ago. Some lyrics are now dated, evoking a sense of nostalgia ("telephone lines" and "wastin' your dime" in the song Skippin'), but the themes are timeless.

His lyrics are often from the viewpoint of different characters, whose feelings range from optimistic (the Puritan minister in Dimmesdale's Request), to playful (the maker of halfhearted resolutions in Vices), to regretful (the enlightened chauvinist in Today in My Mind), to dispirited (the man puzzled by disappointing outcomes in I Just Can't Be This Blue).

Throughout Looking Back, J's style is a blend of country, bluegrass, blues, and gospel.

Video Release March, 2025

J. wrote this bluegrass-style song to capture his experience of biking the raw, rough and rowdy hand-build single-track stretch of Moab's Porcupine Rim trail. The lyrics reflect technical skills and endurance required, and challenges the trail presents for mountain bikers and their bikes.

J. is joined at Flat Black Studios by musicians Alex Flesher, Max Lipnick, Patrick Seaton, Sean Seaton, Laura Kittrell, Max Perkounkov.
